The basics
Breathing
Breathe through your nose and mouth at the same time: when running, the nose alone isn’t enough.
- At an easy pace, your breathing should stay calm enough to talk: it is the best guide to intensity.
- Many runners time their breathing to their steps, for example in over 3 steps and out over 2, but it isn’t required.
- For a side stitch: slow down, breathe out fully and press lightly on the spot.
If you are out of breath on an easy run, you are going too fast.
