Running shoes

Choose the shoe that fits well and feels comfortable from the first steps: comfort is the best guide.

  • Fit: a thumb’s width (about 1 cm) beyond your longest toe, a heel that doesn’t slip, room for your toes to spread.
  • Try them on in the afternoon, when your feet have swollen a little, with your running socks, and jog a few steps.
  • Cushioning and drop (heel-to-toe difference, 0 to 12 mm) are a matter of taste; change gradually, since a lower drop loads the calves and Achilles more.
  • Replace them every 600 to 800 km, or sooner if the foam feels flat or new aches appear.
  • Rotating two pairs varies the stress on your legs and makes each pair last longer.
